I recently attended a sales reward trip to the Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya, located on a beautiful beach near Tulum, Mexico. Rated as one of the “Top 10 Beaches in Mexico” by TripAdvisor and with a name that means “place of the turtle” in Mayan, Akumal is a premium snorkeling location. This adults only oasis is filled with lush vegetation, beautiful fountains and pools and amazing restaurants.
The rooms are beautiful here like at all Secrets Resorts and ours looked out over the beautiful gardens of the resort. The bathroom was gorgeous with a huge bathtub and great shower! Double sinks are perfect for couples and the bed was super comfy and spacious. I highly recommend an upgrade to their Preferred Club where you can enjoy select amenities like:
• Special concierge service.
• Preferred Club Suites in Premium Locations.
• Upgraded mini-bar.
• Upgraded bath amenities.
• Private Preferred Club Lounge with daily continental breakfast, afternoon hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, full bar and computer access.
• Daily a la carte breakfast in Seaside Grill.
The beach was absolutely gorgeous and the water was pristine. Truly some of the best I’ve seen in Mexico in awhile. As you might know, the “sargassum” has been really bad this year in a lot of beaches in the Caribbean and Mexico but it’s finally starting to disappear now that the water is not as warm. Beach conditions are definitely somewhat “hit or miss” from day to day, but when I was visiting it was breathtaking.
The food and service at the resort were wonderful and althought we didn’t get to try all the specialty restaurants since we ate as a group of 100 or so agents, Secrets truly went above and beyond at the events they hosted for us. Specialty restaurants there include Himitsu (Asian), Bordeaux (French), Portofino (Italian) and Oceana (Seafood). Their Market Cafe that was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner was one of the best and largest I had ever experienced. Our favorite area was the Rendezvous Bar which featured live music, fire pits and comfy couches and swing lounges. So fun!
